We continue with our series on the exciting topic of video podcasts. If you haven’t heard of this format yet and only know normal audio podcast, you should definitely read our first post: Standing out from the crowd: video podcasts.
The video podcast lives of course next to the audio track from the visual. Because only with a picture or video the podcast becomes alive and stands out from the crowd. In this article, we present four different types of vodcasts, from simple images to professional studio interviews.
The simple solution: the static image
Why complicate things when they can be simple? If you can’t afford expensive video equipment or don’t have the time to record at the moment, you can upload an image in addition to your audio track. This can be the logo of the podcast, a mood picture matching the episode or a photo of the podcast hosts. In addition, you can also upload a slideshow with suitable images that underline what is being said.
Professional interview with studio flair
Two or more people usually sit across from each other at a table and talk about a murder case, current events or the latest gossip: when we think of a video podcast, we usually think of the situation described above. For a studio atmosphere, of course, you need a studio. Besides that, several microphones and at least one camera should be part of the setup. Several camera perspectives make the video podcast varied. As Filmstudio München, we have the necessary equipment and expertise to record a video podcast in Munich.
In the spotlight: the host during the monologue
Not all podcasts necessarily involve more than one person. Only a single host can talk about certain topics. In a monologue, for example, only the host is filmed during the recording of the video podcast. The setup is not as elaborate as an interview in a studio. Here, too, you can work with different camera perspectives so that the host is not always filmed frontally. Our Munich recording studio is also ideal for a monologue.
Remote interview via Skype, Zoom or Microsoft Teams
Not all of the hosts or guests can come to the studio once a week to record. That’s why there’s another variation of the studio podcast: a remote interview. With video conferencing tools like Zoom, Teams or Skype, the guests and the host or hosts can connect. The biggest drawback is the often poor video and sound quality, as participants usually don’t have professional equipment at their disposal.
Our conclusion
A podcast can successfully stand out from the crowd with an additional image or film track. It can often be enough if only the logo is faded in. A successful recording in a studio has a more professional and therefore higher quality effect. With several camera angles, high-quality microphones and competent direction, the vodcast is guaranteed to stand out from other podcasts and reach the desired target group.
